About NS School Boards
School boards in Canada have helped build a universally accessible, publicly-funded education system.
In Nova Scotia, school boards play a key role in the education of our young people through leadership, prudent fiscal management and oversight of the education system. They define priorities and most importantly, hold the education system accountable for student achievement results.
School boards are the body through which parents and community can most directly influence decisions about schools and the education of children and youth. Our eight school boards in Nova Scotia ensure that all parents and communities across the province have a voice at the local level. They are made up of diverse groups that represent the unique needs of Nova Scotians, including those from francophone, African-Nova Scotian and Mi'kmaq communities.
From professionals to university students and retirees to new parents, school board members are committed to bettering public education in Nova Scotia.
